Everything you've ever wondered
about So Munch
and everything you haven't

01 · The cake

The cake

What it is, what's in the pack, and where the name came from.

01 Is it actually cake?

Yes. Warm, soft, and eaten with a spoon, closer to a just-baked mug cake than a sponge you'd slice. It rises in the microwave and settles as it rests; it's best warm.

02 What comes in the pack?

Three things: the cup you bake in and eat from, a sachet of the mix, and a little measuring cup for the water. You add the water and a microwave; nothing else.

03 How big is one?

40g of mix, which bakes into a single serving. One cup, one sitting.

04 Which flavour should I start with?

Chocolate Sea Salt if you want the one people go quiet for, Mocha if the coffee should be tasted, Cinnamon if you want the cosy one. Or the 3-cup box, which settles it.

05 Why "So Munch"?

You know when your mouth is full of something good and you try to say "I love this so much" and it doesn't quite come out right? That's the whole name. When you're eating one of ours, we want it to come out as: I love this so munch.

02 · Ingredients & nutrition

Ingredients & nutrition

What sweetens it, where the protein comes from, and who it suits.

06 What's it sweetened with?

Monk fruit and allulose. There's no table sugar in the mix. Allulose is a rare sugar found in small amounts in figs and raisins. It tastes and bakes like sugar without behaving like it.

07 Where does the protein come from?

Whey protein isolate (so, milk). It's the reason cake gets to be an every-day thing. The cake still comes first.

08 Vegetarian? Vegan?

Vegetarian, yes. Vegan, no: whey and milk powder.

03 · Allergens & safety

Allergens & safety

Milk, gluten, and who it's made for.

09 Allergens?

It contains milk (whey protein isolate and milk powder). There are no wheat, egg, soy or nut ingredients in the cup. We use gluten-free oat flour, but we don't put a gluten-free claim on the pack until it's certified. If you're coeliac, please hold off until we do.

10 Can kids have it?

There's nothing in the cup a child couldn't eat: it's milk, oats, cocoa, vanilla and the sweeteners. What makes it an adult product is the portion and the protein level.

04 · Making it

Making it

Thirty seconds, one measuring cup of water, and the rest.

11 How do I make it?

Empty the mix into the cup. Fill the little measuring cup with water (that's 30 ml) and pour it in. Mix really well: no dry powder, especially at the bottom. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, then leave it in there to rest for 30 seconds. It finishes setting, and it's hot. Eat it warm, straight from the cup. That's the whole thing.

12 Does microwave power matter?

A little. We test in 700–900W microwaves. Start at 30 seconds everywhere. If the middle still looks wet, add 5 seconds, no more than that. Then let it rest 30 seconds; it finishes setting as it cools. Never go to a full minute.

13 The texture wasn't right. What happened?

Texture is almost always water or time. Too wet in the middle: 5 more seconds, then rest 30. Too dry or firm: check the water (the measuring cup, filled level), don't go past the extra 5 seconds, and don't skip the rest: a lot of "too dry" and "too wet" evens out in that half-minute. If it still isn't right, WhatsApp us a photo. We want to know.

14 Oven or air fryer?

Both work: you'll trade the 30 seconds for a browner top and a slightly firmer crumb. Tip the mix into a small ceramic or glass dish (a ramekin is perfect), add the same 30 ml water, stir. Air fryer: 150°C for 10–12 minutes. Oven: 180–200°C for 10 minutes (remember to preheat). Don't put the cup itself in: it's made for the microwave only.

15 Milk instead of water?

Water, really. There's already milk powder in the mix, and it was developed and tested with exactly one measuring cup of water. That's what gets you the texture we mean.

16 Toppings?

After baking, absolutely: berries, a spoon of yoghurt, chopped nuts, a square of chocolate. Before baking, a little chocolate or a few chocolate chips stirred through is fine. Anything heavier than that changes the bake.

17 Can I make it ahead?

It's best straight away. It firms up as it cools, so we wouldn't.
